Crash Courses

Schedule

SCHEDULE BELOW IS FOR JC 1 STUDENTS GOING ON TO JC2 IN 2020 (STUDENTS MAY PICK AND CHOOSE THE COURSES APPLICABLE TO THEM)

Demand and Supply – key answer structures relating to questions on impact on a market (tested 9 times in past 10 A Level examinations), evaluating policy proposals like price controls, taxes and subsidies (including decision-making question types) will be covered. Students can expect application skills to be significantly strengthened after going through Mr Koh’s answering frameworks.

2 Dec 19 (Mon):  9:30 am to 12:30 pm

Market Structures (H2 only) – making sense of the chapter and predicting exam questions through a Features; Behaviour and Performance perspective. Key essay structures will be imparted. Dynamic question types such as “strategies that a firm can adopt to deal with an adverse event” and “contestability of a firm” and key answering techniques will be shared. This is not an easy chapter to understand. The lesson with Mr Koh promises that students will gain clarity and confidence in answering Market Structure questions.

3 Dec 19 (Tue):  9:30 am to 12:30 pm

Market Failure – traditionally seen as one of the more straightforward topics, until the recent change in syllabus. Students will gain exposure to decision-making question types and learn how to use diagrams to critically analyse context (e.g. when a ban is likely to work, how to reduce government failure associated with imperfect information, case for free provision/complete subsidy) and evaluation templates to power up their market failure scores.

4 Dec 19 (Wed):  9:30 am to 12:30 pm

National Income – students will learn Mr Koh’s intuitive framework – the DIRCO approach that equips students with 14 points to scoring in questions on standards of living (popular exam topic). Given that case study extracts relate to mainly macro data on an economy’s performance, CSQ skills specific to this topic will be imparted. Writing structures for questions involving multiplier (when to invoke full multiplier) and the Circular Flow of Income will also be imparted. Do not underestimate the importance of this topic.

5 Dec 19 (Thur):  9:30 am to 12:30 pm

*One run only. Limited slots available.
